Public Safety
Public safety
in San Francisco
requires
a multifaceted
approach:
Retaining
SFPD uniformed officers
while expanding Plainclothes Units
akin to
"The Streets
of San Francisco",
and reviving the
SFPD Mounted Division.
For UN Plaza and the
Downtown Museums
Enhancing
the SF Sheriff's
Mounted Patrols
to focus on
Civic Center Plaza,
including
the future Senior
and Childcare Center
in the old Library,
which currently houses
the Asian Art Museum
---soon to move to its larger new
350,000 square foot site.
This includes
reactivating
the SFPD Stables
near
Fort Mason
to serve Fisherman's Wharf,
and
expanding
the
SFPD's
Golden
Gate
Park
Stables
to cover
public safety
at UN Plaza
and t
he new,
larger
Asian Art Museum,
located in
the former
Nordstrom building.

Traffic enforcement
should be
managed
by
a county-deputized
MTA Marshal patrol
accountable to
the Board
of Supervisors,
focused
on Vision Zero.

Vision Zero MTA Marshals
The Constabulary
Finally,
establishing
a dedicated
Constabulary
with
mounted
constables
funded
by tourism
districts
like
Union Square.
These
constables,
using
smaller officers
and ponies,
will
patrol
and
act as
tourist liaisons,
fostering
a sense
of calm order
and
tradition
around
Union Square.
This will
free up
uniformed
SFPD officers
to focus on
broader
public safety
concerns
rather than being
tied down
to patrolling
high-end stores.
None
of the
mounted
officers
in
a public safety
capacity
shall be used
for crowd control,
only for patrol.

“We prioritize Tradition
over Militarization,
with a focus on,
community-friendly
public safety.
Unlike vehicles
with hard
steel bumpers
or
Motocross
rubber-studded tires,
horses
inherently avoid
running people down.
It would require
abusing
these intelligent,
empathetic animals
to make them
intentionally
harm humans,
which is against
everything
we stand for.”
